If you are planning to set a stand at the local market, fair or an event you need to plan it first. The products must be eye catching and prices must be seen. It is quite bit different than displaying your products at your retail store. You need to know to what type of customers you are going to sell to. At an event you need to create a theme. If you are selling tea, then you can not go around Ceylon tea. Do not make things complicated. Keep the visual merchandising simple. Add a touch of warmness through lights.
Sketch the ideal customer.
Once you know where you are going to set up your visual merchandise then get to know your ideal customers. Why are these people want to buy from you?. Analyze the competition and what is the common mission of the event?. Add extra value such as offering a free samples or giving a free cup of coffee to get into the mood and get closer contact with your ideal customers. Get to know to what gender and what age category you are offering your products at the stand to. Once you know the need of the customers you can adjust the right products to sell at your stand.
Set up a theme.
Once you know the needs of the customer, then find a theme. You need to communicate through a theme a message to attract interested prospects. If you are selling tea. You can pick Ceylon tea as your main theme. You can give taste tests and give information to the customers where the tea leaves in Sri Lanka is picked. How it is processed and how the circumstances are for the workers who pick the tea. The theme should deliver a message to get the customers interested. You can hang posters and flags which are relevant to the products you display. Add relevant colours to speak a language to paint a picture which is appealing to your prospects.
Add a touch of warmness through lights.
Once the display is set up add proper light that is suitable to the theme. You are dealing with humans here. You need to give their eyes what they need. They see the products displayed on your stand once they see it clearly and see the prices. They will have less questions and they will be attracted. Give people the space to explore for their self as in the supermarket. Keep your lights warm and add a cosy feeling to your stand. Use lights to accentuate the products. Add clear price tags. Keep the display neat and give a clean impression with proper lights.
Create a proper balance.
Create the right balance through displaying products which are accentuated and show symmetry. The eyes are loving the symmetry. Do not place same type of items every where. Find a order to place the same type of items on one shelf and other size items at another place. You need to find out for your self where to place the most attention grabbing products and other products you want to accentuate. Having three products placed in a row and middle product bit higher and other two on the side to accentuate.
Display price tags.
It is matter of fact people want to see a price before they buy. You can use DIY price tags. You can use a magic marker or a pen to write down the prices. To add more professional touch you can use the barcodes. If you use stickers you need to keep in mind that it need to be pealed off. The customers might buy your products as a gift. Also you can buy labels from the local office store to write down the prices. Or you can google for price tag templates. You will see plenty of options.
